Mitsubishi i-MiEV

 

That little ol Mitsubishi i-MiEV has been known for a good long while as about the cheapest way a fella can slide into the electric game. It runs in the same small town crowd as the PSA version, the Citroen C Zero, and the Peugeot iOn. They aint exactly packin a herd of horses under the hood and they sure wont take you clear across Texas on one charge, but mash that pedal and that electric torque jumps quicker than a jackrabbit in July.

And since there aint no big rumblin engine up front, they're simple as a fence post to keep runnin. Not much to service, no oil to fuss with, and they sip electricity cheaper than a pickup sips gas pullin downhill with a tailwind. For city cruisin and short hauls, they make a whole lotta sense.

Now before Tesla turned the world sideways with the Model S back in 2012, the Nissan Leaf was one of the first electric rigs that could actually stretch its legs a bit. It was not perfect, but compared to them early short range rollers, it felt downright futuristic at the time.

Fiat Strada. This here rig comes in two flavors: the older models are tiny lil' pickups — real small, but scrappy. The newer ones, up to about five years old, are more like big ol' Isuzu Troopers or Toyota Hilux trucks — real workhorses, built tough for the long haul. You can trick these babies out real nice, slap on some chrome, lift the suspension, add a light bar — make ’em look mean and mighty fine. And get this: 'bout ten years back, Fiat went and bought out the whole dang Chrysler group. Yup, the whole enchilada. These days, a lotta their rides look a whole lot like Chryslers and Dodges. That goes for Lancia and Alfa Romeo too — all of ’em got a bit of that American muscle flair now. Renault Kangoo. This baby rolled onto the scene back in '99 — 'round the same time my old man got a real hankerin’ to buy one. Toyota Tacoma X-Runner, Toyota FJ cruiser!

Toyota Tacoma X-Runner? Now there’s a truck with some flair! They sold ‘em in the U.S. from 2005 to 2013, in Canada from 2005 to 2014, and even out on Hawaii till 2015. Came in all kinds of cool colors—different shades of blue and red, plus two kinds of black. They only made about 3,000 of these bad boys every year, so they’re a rare find. Now, the Toyota FJ Cruiser? That one wasn’t even supposed to hit production! But after folks went wild for it at the auto show, Toyota decided to give the people what they wanted. It was made mostly for the U.S. market, though I remember seein’ a few of ‘em back home in Bærum. Some small import business must’ve brought a few over, ‘cause there wasn’t a proper dealer for ‘em. By 2014, Toyota started talkin’ about axin’ the FJ Cruiser, but it’s still rollin’ in the Middle East. Those newer versions are upgraded from the originals and mighty hard to come by. TVR Streetcars, around 1950s -

These badass and purebred special British sports cars are made by the British company TVR , since the late '50s. Even though they're darn cool and very special, only a few thousand of them have been produced in different models. Some models have only seen a single or double-digit number of cars produced - quite a shame considering how super cool and unique these cars are. Around 1980, TVR supposedly pulled off a stunt during the unveiling of new cars, where they simply used naked ladies as promotional babes! By the way, one of TVR's cars is said to have been banned in the USA due to some special and very strict safety regulations that it didn't quite meet. Too bad, America! TVR cars are awesome, and here I've captured a bunch of the coolest ones TVR has to offer.
