Lotus Elise and Lotus Esprit

(A Lotus Elise of a much more souped-up version than the old guy drove)


A fella in my old man's club (who was going through a midlife crisis, mind you) drove a Lotus Elise all the way from '98 up until just a few years back. Now, he had another car, of course, but he'd often be found tinkering and fussing over that Elise. He only took it out on nice summer days, like during an orienteering race in Lommedalen he helped organize back in the late '90s. Barely had enough room for a little tent bag, I reckon. I'm sure he had to take a spin later on in a regular car to grab the checkpoints, and my old man, well, he teased him like always, yammering on about a car with just enough space for a golf bag, even though it was a mighty small orienteering race, mind you. But that Lotus Elise, or "my little Elise" as he called it, got the job done. It lasted for many years. Now, whether he still has it, I couldn't rightly say.

Lotus Esprit was driven by none other than Roger Moore in the role of James Bond in the film "For Your Eyes Only." Lotuses are indeed cool cars. It's just a shame there were so very few of them produced and sold.

Fiat Strada Renault Express/Renault Kangoo Volkswagen Caddy

Fiat Strada. This here rig comes in two flavors: the older models are tiny lil' pickups — real small, but scrappy. The newer ones, up to about five years old, are more like big ol' Isuzu Troopers or Toyota Hilux trucks — real workhorses, built tough for the long haul. You can trick these babies out real nice, slap on some chrome, lift the suspension, add a light bar — make ’em look mean and mighty fine. And get this: 'bout ten years back, Fiat went and bought out the whole dang Chrysler group. Yup, the whole enchilada. These days, a lotta their rides look a whole lot like Chryslers and Dodges. Lada 1500 concept and Lada 1500 3G and 4G street cars

Below, you’ll find a picture of the Lada 1500 concept along with a sporty version of the Lada 1500 above. Unfortunately, the concept car never made it into production. The Lada 1500 3G and 4G are more akin to classic cars than true modern street cars, as they are built on a Fiat model from the 1960s. Lada launched its last versions of these models in 1979 and 1982. By that time, Lada had already produced two versions of the Fiat 1500, based on models from the 1950s and 60s, earlier in the 1970s.
