Lotus Elise and Lotus Esprit

Bilde
(A Lotus Elise of a much more souped-up version than the old guy drove) A fella in my old man's club (who was going through a midlife crisis, mind you) drove a Lotus Elise all the way from '98 up until just a few years back. Now, he had another car, of course, but he'd often be found tinkering and fussing over that Elise. He only took it out on nice summer days, like during an orienteering race in Lommedalen he helped organize back in the late '90s. Barely had enough room for a little tent bag, I reckon. I'm sure he had to take a spin later on in a regular car to grab the checkpoints, and my old man, well, he teased him like always, yammering on about a car with just enough space for a golf bag, even though it was a mighty small orienteering race, mind you. But that Lotus Elise, or "my little Elise" as he called it, got the job done. It lasted for many years. Now, whether he still has it, I couldn't rightly say. You can really style and zoom around in...

Ford Mondeo and Ford Sierra!

Bilde
Ford Sierra mk2 , those are some cool cars that rolled out in the late '80s. They got a bit more modern design compared to the later versions of the Volvo 240, which shared the same platform as the first model of the Ford Sierra and were built around the same time. Here's a little snapshot of a Ford Sierra in an old orienteering map from the late '80s, back when orienteering had as much advertising and supporters as the ski association has had in the last 10-15 years. This was also the era when Norway had the most orienteers, around 40,000 in 1987, making up about 1% of the population. You can really spice up a Ford Sierra mk2 or turn it into a Cosworth beast. (The same car that the guy from the mapping office drove. Just not the racing model) The Ford Mondeo has been around since 1992. My cousin had the very first version of it for a short while with her ex-husband back in the mid-90s. My mom and dad's friends who worked at the state mapping office drove a Ford Mondeo...

Citroën GT 2008 and Renault Alpine A110-50 2012

Citroen GT and Renault Alpine A110-50 are indeed some seriously cool cars that could've rocked the streets. The only snag is, they never really made it into proper production, except for the racetrack. Citroen GT, in particular, didn't go beyond being featured in video games. They did manage to create at least one prototype. Both concepts got the axe due to high costs, possibly influenced by emission quotas and such. It's a bummer when even the French, who've usually been mindful of the economic and environmental aspects, let cool projects like these slip away. It's a bit disappointing, especially considering their history of being economically savvy with cars like the 2CV, the compact Citroen Berlingo, and even newer models like the Citroen C-zero, which you recently owned for a period. What was your experience with the C-zero like?

Volvo 850 og Benz CLK/E klasse MK2 Benz CLK GTR/LM Benz CLR

Well, back when I was just a seven-year-old whippersnapper, I first caught wind of the Mercedes Benz E-Class and Mercedes Benz CLK, with their slick Porsche-style headlights. Now, even though I thought Porsche was the epitome of cool at the time, I gotta admit, those double-decker Porsche-style lights on the Mercedes were downright cool, especially with that killer design. And would you believe it, they were way ahead of their time when they hit the scene in 1995.  Now, the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR, that was a whole different beast from the E-Class and the CLK coupe version. Sure, they were built on the same bones, but this one was in a league of its own. It was a bona fide super sports car, breaking records with its sky-high sticker price when it rolled out in 1997. In fact, it made it into the Guinness World Records as the most expensive car ever sold - or at least back in those days. I was all wrapped up in excitement for this car, thinking it'd be a real showstopper if a Norwegian...
