The Subaru Legacy,  they made versions before ’89, but I’m mostly talkin’ about the ones that came after ’89, the ones that actually carried the Legacy name. Those cars were, and still are, real popular over in the States. Subaru in general’s one of the few foreign brands Americans love right alongside their homegrown rides from GM, Ford, and the Jeep-Chrysler crowd. Now, that first-generation Subaru Legacy — I remember my big brother gettin’ picked up in one after he wiped out on his bike. I was about three years old, sittin’ on the luggage rack on Dad’s bike at the time. That Legacy felt mighty modern back then, and for years afterward I kept rememberin’ the whole thing like the car was brand-new even when I was about ten or twelve. Funny how memory plays tricks. My poor brother scraped himself up pretty good — even today his skin’s a little thinner in the face — but luckily we knew some folks livin’ close by who patched him up while we caught our breath. Volvo makes some mighty fine rides — ’specially up here in Norway — like the 240, the PV, and the old Amazon. Folks ’round these parts even call ’em “cruiser cars” or “show-off wagons.” But when it comes to retro-style cars, I gotta say the Swedes ain’t exactly been hittin’ the bull’s-eye. That’s probably why fixin’ up old Volvos has turned into a real wallet-drainer for folks in Norway, with parts gettin’ worn out and repairs costin’ more than a Texas steak dinner. Sure, Volvo’s tried makin’ some retro models, but it’s been a good ten years since they really gave it a go’cept for that P1800 CYAN — and it didn’t exactly set the prairie on fire. Shame, really. ’Cause if our Swedish neighbors had just a little more luck with that retro magic, we’d probably see some mighty sweet classics rollin’ outta their barns. But hey — Norwegians and Swedes have been teasin’ each other since forever, so I say it with all the neighborly love of a cowboy ribbin’ the ranch next door. (  Leif Tufv...

(Aston Martin Valkyrie. Same kinda car that Norwegian fella Arne Fredly went and got himself two of — includin’ this here wildest, meanest model!) Well, lemme tell ya, that Hispano Suiza Carmen’s one heckuva badass supercar from that ol’ almost-gone brand, Hispano Suiza. That Carmen model? It’s the first really cool ride they’ve made since way back in the 1930s. Hispano Suiza used to be a real fancy-pants luxury brand back in the early 1900s, but it kinda fizzled out after the war. Now, the Aston Martin Valkyrie? That’s another crazy-hot supercar from Aston Martin. They’ve mostly been makin’ fancy luxury cars mixed with sporty stuff, but they ain’t ever made a proper supercar ‘til now. That Norwegian feller, Arne Fredly, well, he went ahead and snagged both versions. And word is, some other Norwegian still livin’ in Norway shelled out a whopping 33.5 million kroner just to get it with Norwegian plates.

  These cars are some damn cool rides that, unfortunately, nobody in Norway’s bothered to import, and there ain’t no importer for ’em in the U.S. either. The Lada Vesta’s even been in the WTCC, and as you can see from the pictures, there ain’t no shortage of eye candy—especially Russian gals, who by the way, have been voted some of the world’s prettiest women. Sure, Russians are now known for some serious stuff in Ukraine, so don’t go thinking every Russian gal’s gonna be sweet as pie. Why not bring more of these rides over to Norway and the U.S.? They’re downright badass! About boycotting Ladas in the West ‘cause of the Ukraine war, you can still get a few of these cars at a decent price. A good idea might be to support Russians who are fleeing the Russian dictatorship.
